Dear Mr. Yoshimoto,
I have known Duane Kanuha for over 25 years. Both as a friend, and as a former board member of the Hawaii Island
Land Trust, of which I am the current chairman.
I can not think of a better person to serve as planning director than Mr. Kanuha. Duane possesses that rare
combination of expertise, intelligence and love of the aina.
I can also say that Mr. Kanuha has the highest values, and personal integrity. I am certain that any decision that he
is part of, will always be made with the best interests of Hawaii in mind.
I've sat in board meetings with Duane, and hiked deep into the mountain rainforest with him. I can assure you that he
has the fortitude, intelligence and compassion to do an outstanding job as planning director.
