Dear Chairman Yoshimoto and Council Members:
Please consider this letter of support for the appointment of Duane Kanuha to the
position of Planning Director. Mr. Kanuha is a life long resident of the Big Island and is
familiar with the communities of this island.
With his broad land use experience in serving on the Land Use Commission and as
former Planning Director for the County of Hawaii, Mr. Kanuha is knowledgeable on
state and county planning issues. Just as importantly, he also has experience in the
private sector, an important trait when understanding the dynamics between government
and public interests.
Please give your thoughtful consideration to the above and confirm Mr. Kanuha to
the position of Planning Director.
