County Council Members:
I'd like to URGE you to support Bill 79. Hawaii County needs to support agriculture, yes. But we need
to support common sense agriculture!
The use of genetically modified crops *increases the amount of chemicals used on fields, and those
chemicals end up in our aquifer and our ocean, not to mention our keiki. The bill does not prevent GMO
papaya growers from continuing production, so no harm, no foul for our local papaya growers.
Beyond the environmental damage that comes from growing these genetically engineered crops. what
of our future? We worry ourselves over the health of our children, urging them to get more exercise.
less tv time, and eat smarter. But we ignore the fact that were injecting our food system with a science
that has unknown health implications. In fact, one former PRO-GMO scientist is now warning us about
the dangers of( MO foods.
Flow proud we could all be if Hawaii County stood up to the pressure of the Monsantos and Syngentas
of the world and chose our health, our •aina. and our families, instead of cowing down to the money.
