RE: Support for Bill 79 Time l2Dw By IA

Please support this legislation. Don't be fooled into thinking that the Big Island
Farm Bureau represents farmers, because it doesn't. It represents
agriBUSINESS, not agriCULTURE. My local family business purchases from over
150 family farms annually. None of these farmers abide GMO seed. None.
I own Adaptations certified organic farm in Honaunau, South Kona. I grow
vegetables, orchard crops, coffee and mac nuts. My distribution company sells to
over 65 restaurants, 15 natural food stores and 75 Big Island families through our
CSA.
Island Naturals and Whole Foods, two primary customers, will no longer
purchase products containing GMO ingredients, including produce. This is only
the beginning of our customers driving demand for GMO-free products.
My concern is regarding containment, repercussions in nature not foreseen, loss
of market and unanticipated negative health affects.
With respect, I urge you to please support Bill 79.
Locally yours,
Maureen Datta -_
