Subject: In Support of Bill 79
Aloha,
My name is Shanti Lefort. I have been a resident here since I was a child. And I
support Bill 79.
I lived close to a papaya field a few years ago with my young son and one day I decided
to go look what they were doing, I walked across a few bushes, right there about 100 feet
from my place. I was appalled, they had gas mask on and were spraying way up in the air
and the stuff was flying everywhere! We for sure were breathing it ! No wonder we were
dealing with allergies and runny noses !
I can't believe people eat those papayas, how can something sprayed with gas mask be
edible?
How can some people believe that food sprayed with all kinds of nasty chemicals,
herbicides and pesticides are good for human consumption?
It is just straight poisoning of people up to me. That food, if you can call it such, is
for sure more detrimental to human health then nutritious as food should be.
We went to Kauai last year and I almost cried on the way to Polihale when I saw the
barren-looking acres and ACRES of wasteland type agriculture! This used to be sustainable
villages and now this ! ? !
This style of agriculture destroys all life out of the soil (yes, soil is alive, alive
with super important micro organism and worms) and ruins it. Not to mention the huge
ammount that get washed into rivers and ocean, and the toxic crap they spray ends up
contaminating all the coastal waters of that area where people surf and swim and kills
corals and sea life.
The reality is WE DO NOT KNOW how GMO's toxic agriculture will affects not only humans but
all life on earth.
Why take the chance to permanently mess up these precious Hawaiian Islands? They are
fragile and eanough damage has already been done!
