Subject: Please Ban GMOs in Hawaii
Dear Council Person,
I moved to Hawaii 21 years ago because I wanted to live in a clean and beautiful
environment free of all the elements I don't like about mainland life. I co-own a 17 .75
acre property in the Kapoho area where we are living off-grid and growing our own food
organically. GMOs are a huge issue to me and are an example of exactly what I don't want
on this island or in my life. GMOs are completely unnecessary for human health or
abundant food production on our island. Need I remind you that 150 years ago there was as
many people on the island and they grew all their own food, fertilizer, medicines, and
building materials without any off island inputs, and certainly without GMOs. If the
original Hawaiians could live and indue live well without GMOs than certainly we, with all
our modern conveniences and technology, can do so as well.
GMOs are clearly a threat to the natural order and is an untested and risky practice.
People come to Hawaii for "paradise" . GMOs are not part of paradise. Having a GMO free
island would increase eco-tourism, and show our commitment to sustainability. It would
also create much more local employment in growing food organically, rather than sending
our money off-island for GMO seeds and all the chemicals that go with it. GMOs are a
Pandora' s Box of everything that we don't want for our children.
Living on an isolated island we are in a vulnerable position in the event of a breakdown
in supply lines. For our own long term sustainability we need to know how to live without
these inputs. If we teach people to farm using GMOs then we will lose this living
knowledge and practice. To protect the real security of our people it is imperative that
we completely reject GMOs and put our attention on sustainable and organic farming.
I trust you understand what I 'm saying and will vote in support of all the people of
Hawaii and make Hawaii a GMO free zone for us and all the people to come.

Subject: I support Bill 79 Banning GMOs on Hawaii
Dear Council Person,
Please vote YES on Bill 79 which Bans GMOs in Hawaii. We don't need them, any short-term financial gain made by
GMOs for a small group of people will be at the long term loss of everyone else in the purity of our nature and the health
of our soils, lands, and seeds supply. No No No No, no GMOs. Yes,yes,yes,yes to sustainable and organic agriculture.
