Grandfather existing GMO producers (for example corn grown for the Dairy,
papaya and flower applications) with restrictions that protect the rest of the
farmers and consumers is a good balance. Consumers & farmers deserve the same
as coffee and taro farmers accomplished in 2008.
Having the Big Island be a "GMO limited zone" is good business.
Lastly, Bill 79 is an opportunity aside from the biology and farming issues,
for the County of Hawaii to exert home rule over power-centric
Honolulu/Oahu top down edicts. Just as in with the PLCD and what almost
happened at the DLNR with our fishery regulations. The Big Island must be
recognized and respected.
