Aloha,
I support this bill to restrict GMO crops, trees, seafood, algae and toxic and invasive GMOs on the Big
Island. Once these plants are allowed to be here, it is not possible to keep them isolated from the rest of the food
chain. A non-GMO island would attract seed production/hybrid research - free from GMO contamination;
protective sanctuary for many non-GMO crops attract international growers; non-GMO alfalfa and soybeans
grows well in Hawaii free from GMO contamination; provide for tourists seeking non-GMO products,
etc. Precautionary principles should be used where there is uncertainty or potential harm to
humans/environment. The growing demand for non-GMO food is affecting the price and supply of
commodities. A lack of Federal, State and County GMO regulatory framework leaves all farmers unprotected.
Let us not reach a point where we have done irreversible harm to our environment and subsequently ourselves.
