Subject: GMO
Dear Council Members,
The Hawai'i Tribune Herald's recent feature stories about GMO's on Hawaii Island has been misleading and
simplistic and has attempted, rather successfully, to polarize the sides with little or no common ground. This is
standard procedure for the paper, but that's not what my letter is about. Our family tries hard to educate
ourselves about the foods we eat and try to get healthy, fresh, locally-produced foods from farmers who care for
their land without chemicals, or with as few chemicals as possible. We want to know when our foods contain
GMO additives. If people want to buy and grow GMO foods, I can't stop them, but at least I want to know what
our family is eating. I hope you take a closer look at this issue with info from outside the local mainstream
media. We will not buy or consume GMO products if we can help it and want as much info as we can get.
Accurate labeling of foods you and I and our families eat is not unreasonable, anti-farmer or extreme. It's the
right thing to do. Don't let the HTH or Monsanto tell you otherwise.
