Bill 79
My name is John Ota, born and raised on this Island, a retired citizen today. I
support Bill 79, although it does not address all aspects of GMO problems. I would
like to address the Farmers concerns first, who are against this Bill. The Papaya
growers on this Island were never fully informed about GMO products. The
growers were told to 'Burn" all ring spot virus infected Papaya and the trees. Why
was burning necessary? The Farmers loses all non GMO seeds. Research for
nutrition value of the non GMO and GMO Papaya was not made. Why? If
comparison were made and made public, the consumers could select their choice
for consumption. Requests to label GMO produce/products fell on deaf ears.
Consumers should be provided the right to choose what to consume, the same
choice given to Farmers in growing crops, either non GMO for GMO. Farmers
supporting GMO are taking the blunt of criticism from opponents to GMO, while
Monsanto is sitting and watching the spectacle.
Monsanto created GMO seeds for Corn, Soybeans, Wheat, Cotton and many
crops. Research and tests were conducted in 16 States without proper States
approval. Other GMO companies have also developed GMO Seeds but not in the
volume that Monsanto have accomplished. Monsanto intended to control the
World Agriculture Industry for seeds, fertilizer and Round Up which has been
widely distributed. All of this information may not be important to Farmers but it
spells out the magnitude of GMO operation and how Monsanto earns billions for
the company & Stock holders. The Middle man profits from Monsanto product
sales as well. Monsanto signed a contract with China to sell GMO Soybeans grown
in Brazil, worth Billions.
Why is the GMO label request not made into law? Why is the before and after
nutrition comparison not made public? What has Monsanto done to the
Government, Researchers and sales persons of the GMO produce/products? Round
Up resistant seeds contain the same chemical in Round Up and Napalm Bomb.
Monsanto claims that 20 years have gone by without health effects. And yet, a
recent study conducted in Australia with Pigs that were fed GMO and non GMO
were compared. Human digestive system is closely related to the Pig digestive
system. The GMO fed Pigs stomach were highly inflamed while the non GMO
pigs had clean stomachs. Diseases of all sorts could result from the inflammation,
