To whom it may concern:
I, Nestor Pagtama and my family,are powerfully against bill 79. Before GMO,our papayas were
virus infested.When the virus was spread to the Puna side,our hard work that we put into our papaya
fields were wiped out.Thankfully,after we were introduced to GMO papayas,we no longer struggled.
Just like many other families,the Papaya farm is our main source of income. Heavily depending on our
farms,which are planted with these GMO papayas that you are trying to ban, my family has been able
to survive.These genetically modified organisms have sent and been sending my children to school.
They've put a roof over our heads and food in our mouths. How can you take this away from us?There
are reasons why the plants were modified.They can't endure the world full of viruses we are living in
now.Just like how we give our children Vaccinations.GMOs make the papaya sturdier so they can
survive.

I, Nick Pagtama also would like to speak on behalf of Pagtama Farms. We're strongly against bill
79. Graduating amongst the top of my class,earning the Board of Education diploma, my senior project
consisted of the history of farming on how it advanced throughout the years and on different methods
of farming. GMO's aren't as bad as these people make it to be.The Scientifics behind GMO's are
primarily to make the plant better. GMO's alters the plants DNA structure giving it enhanced
characteristics that it didn't have before, making it more resistant to pesticides and herbicides.Just like
my dad mentioned, many other farmers depend on the papaya as our main source of income.This is
how they pay for my future,for my sister's future,for our children's futures.Just remember,your kids
are already Genetically Modified,all the shots &vaccinations you give them when you go to the doctor's
office are given to them because the body can't fight the sicknesses on its own.That is exactly why the
papaya was genetically modified.
