Subject: Support bill 79
Aloha,
We are pleased that the County Council is considering a bill such as banning further GMO
contamination of our island. The negative impact GMO's have on our island has been devastating to
residence such as our family who loves green papaya salad and is disappointed that 80% papaya is
contaminated now. In fact, Japan refuses to buy the papaya. We need to stop the biotech industry
from turning us into lab rats in this test on the land and it's people. Some reasons why I support this
bill:
• The use of more toxic pesticides. We don't care if they are approved, there is a more respectful
way of doing things. The watershed will take it to the sea. We wonder why we have less fish.
• The likely contamination of our organic and self reliant farms. GMO's take our choice to eat real
food that has been grown for generations without genes of difference species.
• The biotech industry has made sure there need not be any testing for human consumption of
their laboratory created food.
• We have seen various studies which points to the killing off of pollinators which directly takes
the ability for farmers to grow food or anything that needs pollination.
• BT corn was said to be a "godsend" for the farmers by placing the BT gene into the corn genes.
The bugs actually got immune to their BT toxic chemicals in the corn so in fact the farmers have
to spray even more pesticides on their food contaminating our land, air, and sea.
• The possibility of inadequate handling of corn pollen which can fly in the wind to residents of
areas.
• The possibility of contamination through trucks of gmo feed corn falling on the roadsides and
encroaching on organic farms. This has happened with GMO papaya.
• The patented genes taking our diversity in what we grow and forced infringement of royalties of
this company which have been used by natives for generations.
• The negative environmental impact that occurs whereever GMO's are grown.
• The health and well being of our communities who will breathe all the pesticides they are
spraying.

In closing I would just like to urge the County Council to stop all of this unproven technology. We know
the companies can afford lobbyists and go between government and CEO jobs with biotech. We think
that is corrupt and the reason why harmful pesticides were approved by the FDA and whether it is
approved or not, I do not agree with it poisoning my family.
Sincerely,
Anna Subiono
