Hawaii County Council
Thank you for showing support of Bill 79. Please pass this bill, it is needed for people
to step forward and show courageous support of something so vital to protect our
agricultural industry here.
Europe (the European Union) is presently in the process of banning GMO's as they
are recognized as
a threat to the environment of many levels and to public health
Eight European countries have already exercised "safeguard" clauses to ban GMO
crops with Poland being the most recent.
Poland, France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Luxembourg, Greece and Bulgaria have
banned the cultivation of GMO crops

It is not easy to do the right thing and passing Bill 79 will be the right thing
Other regions are at the very least, using moratoriums to halt things till proof positive
is reached regarding safety.
Hawaii has an especially fragile ecosystem and there are long term precedents already
to protect against any species or
harmful cultivars with the importing of live plants or seeds.
Let it be so with GMO products too. They are not above the law
