Subject: GMO
To all concerned,
As a farmer in Hamakua I would like to register my opposition to GMO crops in
Hawaii. At the farmer' s market where I sell my produce what I hear is that more and more
people are looking for clean and healthy food that is not genetically engineered. GMOs
are good for Monsanto's profits and will allow them to have control over our seed supply.
Many other countries have voted against GMOs. The big island would not be alone in making
this decision, most of the world agrees with it ! Also , as organic papaya growers, it is
upon us to prove that are papayas have not been contaminated with GMO papayas. This is
quite an added hassle that we do not need. Most of the world has voiced its opposition to
GMO crops, as have American rice and wheat farmers. We would do well to follow suit.
