Subject: Ban GMO on Hawai'i Island Bill 79
Aloha,
Even though I am not a Hawai'i resident (yet), my husband and I have visited your beautiful state twice,
and after experiencing the magic of your islands, we have decided to move our family to Oahu this
coming Feb. We believed this would be an excellent place to raise our children, in a cleaner
environment then where we are currently living. However, I have recently learned that companies like
Monsanto have practically been using Hawaii as their lab base for testing chemical pesticides and new
GMO products. I am now very concerned about the quality of life my 2 young children will have when
we make this move. Our pediatrician advised us to switch to organic foods, especially those listed on
the "Dirty Dozen, Clean 15" list when our son started eating solid food. She cited numerous studies that
show a link between pesticide exposure and birth defects, increased childhood cancer, and death. There
is no way to contain a chemical pesticide or herbicide that is being sprayed in the open air, and this
activity is not only harming your state environmentally, but also risking people's lives!
Please, for the love of people and land, please ban GMO and chemical tests on your beautiful islands.
