Aloha Hawaii County Council Members,
Mahalo for receiving this testimony.
We urge you to support Bill 79 and the issue of the prohibition of GMO's on Hawaii Island. We
the people appreciate your bold stance and interest in serving and protecting the people and our
food supply.
"The Biotechs may fool some of the people some of the time,
all of the people some of the time
BUT NOT ALL OF THE PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME!
We are enlightened and will not be fooled on this issue.
Thank you for your kind consideration and support of Bill 79 and the protection of all of the
people and all of our environment.

ps; we are most at risk!!!
Aloha Hawaii County Council Members,
Mahalo for receiving this testimony.
As you know you have a very significant decision to make
regarding Bill 79 and the issue of prohibiting CMOs on Hawaii Island.
Here on Kauai we have a massive presence of the Chemical
Companies testing their GMO crops. We have had children getting sick in
the schools. We have the highest incidence of Cancer in the country. We
have the reefs and the sea urchins dying off. We have atrazine in the water.

There is more, and these companies plan to expand.
While the above information is merely anecdotal us to you, for us it is real. I
urge you to give serious consideration at least to the following statement released
this week from the United States Department of Agriculture in refusing to grant
approvals for the use of new seed products to Dow and Monsanto.
The link below is to an article published in the Dow Jones Newsletter on May 10,
2013. It reveals that the USDA has "put the brakes on controversial new
genetically modified corn, soybean and cotton seeds from Monsanto Co. and Dow
Chemical Co. saying Friday it would conduct a more thorough environmental
review of the crops."
The first link below contains the entire article. But we would like to highlight the
quote below from that article.
"The USDA said it needed to conduct more detailed studies before approving
the seeds because they "may significantly affect the quality of the human
environment."
Here on Kauai we understand the full implications of their ruling. The USDA is
concerned about the affects on the "quality of the human environment" and
therefore has not allowed these products to be released for public usage.
However, here on Kauai, Ground Zero for the testing of these kinds of products,
we are exposed to them on a regular basis. Please consider if you want to expose
the people of your island of Hawaii to the detrimental health risks of these
unapproved toxins, that are considered too dangerous to be used in other places
but will be continued to be used in their "test fields"?
In addition there are links to four other recent articles for your consideration.
There is an overwhelming amount of research now emerging regarding the
dangers to the health and well being of the people and the land from these GMO
activities. We are experiencing them first hand here on Kauai.
We most urgently SUPPORT the passage of Bill 79 in order to keep GMOs off
of your home island and avoid their devastating effects.
Mahalo nui loa,
Michael Shooltz
