Subject: Testimony of Bill 79
Aloha My name is Francine Wintersteen, Testifying against Bill 79. To Prohibit is: prohibition, is the
legal act of prohibiting the manufacture, transportation and sale of what ever it is you are trying to
Prohibit. Unlike Bill 79, as we all know there have been a misunderstanding of deceit to the public on
this matter. I highly recommend this confusion be turned to a simple straight up Ban for Gmo's Not
Prohibit wit a nice watered down language that goes against anything as to protect Hawaii, the economy,
the people and small farmers. So to allow GMO now is a total abomination! I testify on behalf of the
newly watered down version of allowing GMO bill 79 is something I do not support and if everyone
knew the suscpisousness to allowing Monsanto and GMO producers the full protected rights this bill
actually is now three days before the last hearing....makes a big no no. Ms. Wilie presented the public
with the first then went to the hearing with a second against all the peoples rights, needs and wants.
Councilmen and Woman, this is pure fire that being played with. There is a Revolt against GMO and
monsanto on an international level coming this July 24th if Hawaii was once again deceived. Wow, I
can imagine...
how congress here will find difficulty to live on.
I do not support any GMO use in Hawaii, Regardless if they say they have a NON GMO and GMO
plants that do not cross pollinate, due to the nature of planting only female plants. All of the farmers on
Big Island do not only grow female or male plants. So it still don't assure there will be no cross
pollination. Especially our natural island plants. It also will take away our Hawai'is prestige, crisp, fertile
land to grow the richness that a lot of wealthy tourist and international market looks for in our plants and
food. We are fortunate to have a chance to be GMO free food for marketing which, I think will save
Hawai'is economy. Due to the fact that Hawai'i's tradewinds are already dying and volcano vog is
getting worse. So if we can't be a state of tourist economical growth or stability with also being known
as GMO BIO HAZARD lands. Our paradise is lost for good. What GMO ruins all the goodness left for
Hawaii to offer. America will lose the Hawaii state forever to what was a gem. To not just the people of
Hawaii, but of all of America. It is a big part of a crucial American History, War history. Also, I feel
banning it now will save the legislature and state, the GMO companies a lot of other headaches to come,
if it is allowed.
After the ban the GMO recent farmers can have up to 3 yrs. to turn over their crops to NON GMO.
Which is efficient and ample time for it to re soil and regrow and they won't have to lose all their
business. It's plain and simple as to know such big Nurseries and Smart successful businesses like Green
Point Nursery don't care for GMO. And the anthirium business isn't asking or crying out for help, that
GMO has to save them. They are doing just fine. There is NO NEED for more GMO research and such.
Our Hawaii University could grow richly on researching natural substances like the need of IMO4 rich
soils, because a lot of American soil isn't as rich as it use to be, Especially on the mainland....who knows
what our seaweed still have possible potential to do?
Hawaii University can and could over master Monsanto with rich IMO4 SOIL & organics. that is and
could be Hawaii's Gold. No one needs dead seeds, dead plants, dead food to eat. Their is good price for
QUALITY and GMO isn't quality. Or everyone wouldn't be boycotting or opposing it.
Now imagine all to boycotts happening to the companies right now, You don't think if Hawai'i is the
biggest place in America or the world to support GMO's that the Mainland and other countries won't

boycott Hawaii? Then for sure could we afford to keep our economy seriously strong.?
Unless the state or legislature, or congress has no family or future here, then I must say by all means,
destroy your land and your people, your economy, your future.
So, BAN IT! Do not allow it like you do not allow Marijuana. If after the 3rd year farmers, or any
medical or agriculture research, manufacturer, producers, etc...can be fined or imprisoned and all crops.
labs or contents of GMO be seized and destroyed and the STATE can be compensated by the violator
for illegal and unlawful GMO's we can't afford to wait till their is a positive human benign harmful
research or other physical harm be a class act sue case for the State of Hawaii.
