Barter <hoalike5 @gmail.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2013 10:27 AM To: counciltestimony @co.hawaii.hi.us Subject: Bill 79 strong support These crops their purveyors claim are rigorously tested and regulated. Nothing could be further from the truth. Look at the "Coordinated Framework" that regulates them and see for yourself. The important questions are not even asked. Testing is voluntary. All that is required to release test crop is filling out a form, with no pertinent scientific information. The public has awakened and a majority have questions, un-answered. * The GMO industry response to this concern has been: * Intense and untruthful, and misleading PR campaign. * Greater secrecy. * Refusal to disclose requested information on pesticide use. * Lobbying to have amendments to the Federal law which exempts the industry form environmental law and court orders, exemptions from legal responsibility for harm due to their products. * Lobbying for a bill that passed in the Senate to prevent states' right's to enact laws that would prevent the people from knowing if the food they buy has been genetically modified. Please do not let those who engage in such arrogant, disrespectful, disrespectful and corrupt behavior which defiles our system of government as it seeks, by any means necessary to bend it to its corporate will, do business on Hawaii island that produces important food and specialty crops. Sadly, we do not have the resources necessary to regulate jackals at the level that is necessary. Thank you, Mary and David Barter Citizens of Oahu, Hawaii c A W OO ea -4r- w .D""‹ rn Comm.
