Subject: In Support of Bill 79 Relating to Genetically Engineered experimental field tests
Aloha Hawai'i County Council,
I am in strong support of Bill 79 to ban the planting of any new genetically engineered food crops on
the island of Hawai'i.
It is with great pride that I am writing the Hawai'i County Council to support you in your decision to
stand up for the people Hawai'i County. We have all seen the legislation that the Hawaii Crop
Improvement Association has lobbied for this this past year. HCIA was a strong supporter of SB 727
that would take away County's rights to protect the health and life of its people.
We on Kaua'i are fighting along with you. The HCIA is drowning us with their propaganda of"safety",
"scientific studies", "only way to feed a starving world", and that they are "well regulated by the State
and Federal Government". We can see through these lies.
Nothing they do is in line with our ideals of malama 'aina. They do not care if their Biotech Agriculture
leaves our agricultural lands lifeless and poisoned. They do not care about the Hawai'i we will be
leaving for our children. The five companies that make up the HCIA (DOW, DuPont, Syngenta,
BASF, Monsanto) grossed over $224 billion dollars in 2012. The only thing these corporations care
about is money. We need you to protect peoples health over corporate wealth. The time is now to
take a stand and protect the health and life of the people of Hawai'i County. We look to you for
inspiration. The future of Hawai'i is in your hands.
