If possible, will you please distribute a copy of my email testimony to each of the council members and
districts for tomorrow's meeting regarding Bill 79 regarding GMO's.

Aloha members of Hawai'i County Council,
Unfortunately, I am unable to make the meeting tomorrow in person as I will be working on a coastal
restoration project in Ka'u.
However, I wanted to make it clear to each of you that I wholeheartedly SUPPORT Bill 79, Draft 2, in
its entirety. This long-time-coming effort is the first step to ensure that GMO crops do not expand
throughout our island. The US FDA has been remiss in allowing these crops to infiltrate into the public
market for years ... and this is our opportunity to protect the lives of our people and the health of our
'aina.
As a marine biologist, I am especially concerned with the amounts of pesticides and herbicides that are
sprayed onto our lands, that may potentially contaminate our streams and find their way into the ocean.
As a human being living on an isolated island, I am concerned about our food security and safety (or
lack thereof) while consumption of these GMO products (directly through soy, corn, wheat, sugar, etc.
and in-directly through corn-based feed for farm animals).
Please do your research and protect our people over the needs of our County's pocketbook. I humbly ask
you each to vote in FAVOR of Bill 79 at tomorrow's meeting. Many thanks for your time and
consideration.
