Your mission is to decide the fate of the health of Big Islanders now and in the future. On one side you have the people who are making money off of GMOs in some way. On the other side, you have have the rest of the population. In essence, you are being asked to cater to special financial interests versus the health and well-being of the rest of the island's citizens, and our fragile environment here. The bio-tech's propaganda machine runs 24/7. The truth is, GMOs are a gamble with the health of the entire ecosystem. No one knows what will happen to them down the line. We are a guinea pig nation for these corporations, who are driven by one motive only. Simple common sense dictates to err on the side of caution. We can no longer avoid contact with Roundup. We are forced to breathe it, drink it and eat it against our will, as it is now in everything. If Monsanto had deliberately set out to destroy the human race, they could not have done a better job... For the technological elite of the world, the globalist corporations who suck the resources out of countries without contributing anything positive, the masses of poor humanity are expendable now, fully replaceable by robotics. We have a few globalist corporations, formerly chemical weapons makers, now in charge of the seed/food supply worldwide. To attribute anything remotely smacking of humanitarianism to these unethical entities would be a grave mistake. They do not have the well being of the masses in mind. I urge you to have courage in the face of the pressures put on you now by the monied interests, as well as the innocent farmers who I believe were misled as to the safety of the GMOs. The University of Hawaii, recipient of Monsanto's largesse, never did any animal studies on the transgenic papayas (that I am aware of) before releasing the seeds to the public. The problem lies in conventional agriculture. Permaculture may be the answer. Let the Big Island be a model for the rest of the world. Finally, please read the following link, which details the alarming amount of GMO papaya contamination and how it is challenging the organic farmers: http://hawaiiseed.org/local-issues/papaya/ Comm.
