Subject: Bill 79
I am writing because I am very concerned about the consequences of bill 79 becoming law.
In the face of increasing challenges for farmers due to the the changing climate and the continuous inflow of new
agricultural pests, farmers should not be denied the use of a valuable tool.
Passage of bill 79 would also be sending the message that scientific innovation is not welcome on our island.
The moving around of genes does not create any sinister gmo poisons. The health problems related to our modern diet
is because our diet is too rich, too big, and not balanced with physical activity.
The new biotech varieties are environmental positives as they help farmers produce more crop with less land, fertilizer,
more benign herbicides, less insecticides, and less fuel. Some biotech varieties produce crops that not only more
bountiful but more nutritious.
Please do not be an obstacle to progress.
I would would like to respectfully suggest that the council members should eat more vegetables (local of course), make
exercise a priority, and vote no on bill 79.
