Subject: Yes on Bill #79
Greetings from Joshua Tree, California,
I run a desert magazine here in California, and I am a career journalist, experienced in environmental reporting. I
am also a very big fan of the Big Island and can't wait to return again.
I am writing to strongly encourage you to support Bill#79. GMO testing and research, along with the pesticide
and herbicide use that accompanies it, will permanently damage the Big Island's ecology. Not only is that
important for the health of islanders and visitors, as well as wildlife on island and in the seas nearby, but there is a
growing awareness that GMO plantations are unhealthy, poisonous places, so allowing this kind of operation
could directly harm your tourism industry on island (I've been involved in tourism and destination marketing for the
past decade).
Please keep the Big Island natural and beautiful. You have one of the world's treasures to care for-please take
action to keep it that way-for everyone's sake.
Mahalo,
Steve Brown
