Farmers in Iowa have embraced biotechnology's influence in crop production because it has allowed us to grow more while reducing erosion, reducing our need for water, and reducing our use of pesticides and fertilizer. As a district soil commisioner one of the biggest challenges we face is loss of soil and in turn water quaility, by turning the clock back and returning to the methods of the past (mechinacal cultivation)to controll pests and weeds,we not only pollute our waters but waste the greastest natural resource we have, our soil,To put it another way not using bio techinolagy is peramont to a ban on modern medicane with a ban on such basic drugs like peniciln, rather"bleed 'the patient untill they are well.would be a good anology as we would watch our precious top soil slowly bleed away taking centurys to replace. We are proud of the safety of the crops we grow. In Iowa, 90 percent of corn and nearly 100 percent of soybeans grown include some biotech traits. These crops have proven to be safe for our families who work on the farm, the livestock we feed, and consumers. Please do not pass a county bill that will restrict or ban the exploration and use of biotechnology. n Sincerely, w ?c^-) 0 Randy Caviness r- w 2624 Pinewood Ave Greenfield, IA 50849 "c-) rn N = J CO Comm.
