Cobeen <aloha-cobeen @hawaii.rr.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 23, 2013 8:40 PM 2013 JUL 3 I PH 12: 23 To: jyoshimoto @co.hawaii.hi.us Subject: Agriculture - Hawaii Island Aloha Councilman Yoshimoto: I wanted to be sure you know that we object strongly to the GMO crops now and planed for Hawaii Island. As has been done in multiples of countries around the globe, Hawaii Island should prohibit GMOs here in any form. If it is allowed, this will be a tragic legacy for our ohana. The GMO corn already on the Hamakua Coast is truely a sight to see. Stop at Ookala or Pepeeko and get out of the car and see what it is. Only takes a minute. It's eerily silent. No birds, no insects, no bees. It's sterile. The soil is dead. What has taken decades to build a vibrant healthy soil has been destroyed in only a few short years. I'm hoping you review some of the abundance of science on this topic and particularly the studies NOT prepared by the GMO related companies. We feel certain you will make the right decision for our community. Respectfully, Karen Karen K.Cobeen P.O. Box 7028 Kamuela, HI 96743 808-938-0089 Comm. No. I ' I '1- V.I. To: 4 74' 1 Ref. Date ZU13
