Subject: Please support biotechnology research and use
Dear Mr.Yoshimoto,
I am a farmer from Iowa. We visited your state two years ago and had a great time. I understand you are having a
discussion about bio engineered crops. I would ask you to support the use of these plants and not let the fear mongers
rule the day. We have been using biotech traited seed for nearly 15 years and that has simplified the pesticides we use
and helped to increase production in that time frame.
For us to survive in production agriculture we have to increase our yield and reduce our costs per unit. Bio tech seed
helps us do that and remain competitive in the world markets. Some how you're sugar cane farmers lost their
competitive advantage and now Hawaii no longer is in that business.
As I stated before we have been using Bio tech seed for about 15 years and haven't seen any changes in our flora or
fauna. We can use less pesticides in our fields which is better for the environment and it allows us to transition to no-till
farming which helps keep our topsoil on our farm. Don't let the fear mongers cut your and our competitive advantage.
