Article 31 of the Hawai'i County Code provides that the County protocol officer shall submit an annual report by July 31 of each year covering the previous year's sister-city activities. NAGO CITY, OKINAWA, JAPAN Resolution No. 154, dated April 9, 1986. The supporting organization is Hui Okinawa. August, 2013 — 12 intermediate school students and two chaperones, visiting Hilo on a student exchange came to the Mayor's Office for a courtesy call and omiyage exchange with the Mayor. YURIHAMA CITY, JAPAN— Formerly Hawaii-Cho Resolution No. 400-96, dated October 16, 1996. The supporting organization is the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Hawai'i, (JCCIH). August, 2013 —14 students, and four adults —the Superintendent of Education, two teachers and the coordinator of International Relations for Yurihama Town were in Hilo for six days. They stayed with host families of students from the Hilo Intermediate School Builders Club. The group participated in many school activities at Hilo Intermediate School and visited many local sights and visitor attractions. Comm. Date AUG 0 8 2013 Chair Yosnimoto and Council Members Page 2 July 31, 2013 Planning Division Kenji Nakamoto and Matthew Ackerman, International Relations (Interpreter) visited Hilo for a three day visit. Upon arrival in Hilo, the group paid a visit to the Mayor's Office where they were greeted by members of the Mayor's cabinet. The County of Hawaii hosted a dinner reception for the Yurihama group at the Yacht Club that also included members of the cabinet who visited Yurihama in the past. The County also took the group on a day tour of Hilo that included lunch at Hale Pohaku. SHIBUKAWA CITY, JAPAN (Formerly Ikaho-Machi Resolution No. 16-97, dated January 27, 1997. The supporting organization is the Japanese Community Association of Hawai'i (JCA). August, 2012 — Eight students ages 13-14, from Ikaho Junior High School, along with the school's principal, Mr. Shinobu Uehara and teacher, Ms. Reiko Nakano participated in a seven day student exchange hosted by the Waiakea High School Key Club and the Japanese Community Association of Hawai'i. The students stayed with host families and participated in activities at Waiakea High School and Nawahi Hawaiian Language Charter School. SUMOTO CITY, JAPAN Resolution No. 282-00, dated August 9, 2000. The supporting organization is the Kiwanis Club of East Hawai'i. No activity. KUMEJIMA, OKINAWA, JAPAN Resolution No. 42-11, dated May 17, 2011. The supporting organization is the Friends of NELHA. August, 2012 — Kumejima Mayor Chouko Taira, Council Chairman Takeshi Kikuzato, and five other members from the Kumejima Town Office and the Dept. of Education visited the Big Island. The beginning of their visit coincided with that of another sister city from Okinawa, Nago City. Both sister cities attended the Haari Boat Races and were honored at a reception at the Seaside Restaurant sponsored by the County of Hawai'i. Various county officials including Mayor Kenoi and Councilman Donald Ikeda were among the attendees. County of Hawai'i is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer. Chair Yosnimoto and Council Members Page 3 July 31, 2013 The group spent some time in Kona, visiting NELHA, the West Hawai'i Civic Center to learn about the energy system, and Kealakehe High School for a possible sister-school relationship. The Ajimine Ohana and families of the Hawai'i-Kumejima Kenjin Kai sponsored a potluck dinner at Kahaluu Beach Park. LA REUNION Resolution 197-12, dated January 4, 2012. The supporting entity is goodwill ambassadors and liaisons, Alain and Marie Gerente. February, 2013 — Liaisons Alain and Marie Gerente visited the Mayor's Office to film an informational video that featured Mayor Billy Kenoi, Deputy Managing Director Randy Kurohara and Sister City Protocol Officer Charmaine Shigemura. They met with Mr. Kurohara and me to extend an invitation to Mayor Kenoi to visit La Reunion sometime this year. ORMOC, PHILIPPINES Resolution No. 77-11, dated June 15, 2011. The supporting organization is the Congress of Visayan Organizations — Kona Visayan Club and Hilo Visayan Club (COVO). No activity. GOKSEONG COUNTY, SOUTH KOREA Resolution No. 138-11, dated September 21, 2011. The supporting organizations are Natural Farming, LLC, Kohala Intergenerational Center, Hawai'i FFA Foundation, University of Nations, Cho Global Natural Farming-Hawaii, Big Island Korean Club and Hilo Korean Church.
