Aloha Honorable Council Members,
Although I live in California, I have nieces and nephews in Hawaii and now even a grand
nephew. My father developed a nerve disease while living on the big island Hilo side
when he repeatedly used Roundup, which is NOT safe. He died in 2004. My brother
was diagnosed with recto-colon cancer after working for a surfboard company located in
an open field on the North Shore of Oahu. He started working there as a surfboard shaper
after the previous shaper died of recto-colon cancer. At first I thought it was from the
surfboard resins but surfboards never had that horrible odor that the fields sometimes
had. They had both been breathing in the poisons from aerial spraying over the secret
GMO experimental fields. My brother died on July 27, 2009. Both my father and my
brother had a dream of living in Hawaii and both paid the ultimate price for doing so. I
am supporting the bill 2491 in Kauai, but I feel it is far too shortsighted and prohibiting
GMOs altogether is far better.
Mahalo for your best actions on this matter and please vote for Bill 79.
