To Whom It May Concern in Hawaii:
My in-laws live there. My family vacations there. I urge local lawmakers to vote the biotechs and
their GMO poisons off the islands or lose our tourism and consumption forever. No more Hawaiian
papaya, no more beach-front hotel bookings for us.
I know it seems risky, but don't let the corporations scare you with their never-ending lies. In the
end, they never have anyone's back but their own. It's different when you join a grassroots
movement. We band together, becoming stronger and stronger over time as more individuals join
the effort. For my part in Hawaii's current battle, I will personally launch a fundraising campaign
for any Hawaiian politician who decisively sticks his or her neck out on this issue and makes it his
or her MISSION to return the agriculture of the islands to a non-polluting, GMO-free, sustainable
model. There are hundreds of thousands of us fighting Monsanto, Syngenta, and the like all around
the world. Every backyard is our backyard. The world has become too small, and these monsters
make it smaller still by choking us into tighter and tighter regions of habitable land with their
continuous biocidal rampage.
The art of growing food should focus on fertility and life, not sterility and death. Instead, the
biotechs and chemical manufacturers are fast perverting the air we breath, the water we drink and
the food we eat into the main (and unavoidable) causes of cancer and disease crippling a once
strong and healthy nation. Glyphosate (Roundup) is sterilizing our most abundant croplands so that
nothing can be grown on it but Monsanto's patented mono-crops -- and only then with the help of
ever-increasing quantities of toxic fungicides and pesticides sprayed over the fields season after
season and year after year. Honey bees (our most important pollinators) are literally dropping dead
on contact with some of the "safe" new chemicals these death merchants are pushing onto an
unsuspecting public. This is not farming. It is the end of farming. This is not food. It is mutant
swill. This is not a path toward prosperity. It is murder, exploitation and enslavement of the people
of this planet by a few greed-driven maniacs too sociopathic to care about the consequences of their
actions. Do not accept them as your masters, Hawaii. Stand up. Kick Monsanto and the biotechs
out. YOU DON'T NEED THEM. None of us do.
