Subject: In Regards to Bill 79
Aloha,
I am writing to encourage your support of Bill 79. I support complete prohibition of GMO crops, plants, seeds, trees, fish,
livestock, algae, and other agricultural products on Hawaii Island. I believe that keeping GMO production off of the Island
of Hawaii is a wise and critical step for our Island's future. While large corporations have "big money" and may provide
jobs, they do not have the health of the land and it's people in mind. There have been lawsuits on other islands regarding
personal and public safety, illegal chemical applications, crop contamination, and breached licensing/labeling issues. The
Island of Hawaii has fertile soil and optimum growing conditions. May we not be short-sighted and allow GMO agriculture
to come in and harm our environment, our people (especially children, who are most affected by the toxic agricultural
chemicals) and our future for their profit. GMO farming increases the amount of pesticides and chemical fertilizers used
and decreases biodiversity. Hawaii Island, it's Farmers, and People should not have to be "test" site for GMO's nor a host
for GMO agricultural practices. By becoming a GMO-free Island we can be a model for the world and our agricultural
products will be even more of a commodity. Lets say NO to GMO and make our agricultural products a "masterpiece"
instead of"mass-produced". Thank you for your time work!
Sincerely, n
