Subject: Vote YES on Bills 2491 and 79
Please honor the legacy of these sacred isles and defend Mother Earth by banning GMOs. They are
based on a reductionist, mechanical paradigm that has been proven faulty and too risky, since it ignores
the interconnected web of life. Since you have the power to vote YES, you also have the responsibility
to this and future generations to defend the integrity of the air, water, food and land. GE is an unnatural
process whereby the code or language of life is being manipulated with limited workibg vocabulary and
only a partial alphabet, since even the top geneticists admit they don't know the function of 96% of our
dna. It kills the soil, decreases biodiversity, depletes crop nutrition, and is less productive yet uses more
toxic pesticides than far more sustainable methods such as permaculture, hydroponics, aeroponics,
biodynamic farming, hugelkuktur, etc. It has negative intended and unintended consequences: food
monopolies, seed patents, viral insertions, digestive damage. cancerous tumors, and more. Biotech
companies are continuing Hawai'i's history of exploitation: the large-scale testing of GE crops, spraying
of tons of chemicals, and exposure to severe health risks constitutes a direction violation of international
laws protecting humanity, specifically the post-WWII Nuremberg Codes that prohibit experiments on
humans without conscious consent. Biotech companies can not control the infiltration of airborn
chemicals and cross-contamination of genetic material. While they can not guarantee to do no harm, the
land and her people will ultimately pay the price for the unacceptabke risk economically, ecologically
and ethically. The state will face class-action lawsuits as well as the wrath of Mama Pele. Hawaii is a
sacred paradise that MUST be preserved! VOTE YES TO BAN GMOs!! VOTE YES FOR PACHA
MAMA AND OUR DESCENDANTS!
