The proposed amendments are illustrated below in Ramseyer format with respect to the contents of Resolution No. 164-13; material to be deleted is bracketed and stricken through; material to be added is underscored. Holzman, Board of Regents, University of Hawai`i; Interim President David Lassner, PhD, University of Hawai`i; Chancellor Donald Straney, PhD, University of Hawai`i at Hilo; and Dean Bruce Mathews, PhD, College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resource Management, University of Hawai`i at Hilo.] A RESOLUTION URGING THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII BOARD OF REGENTS TO APPROVE A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ENGINEERING DEGREE PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII AT HILO. WHEREAS, engineers play a vital role in the design and development of a wide range of useful devices, critical infrastructure, and technical services which maintain and improve the quality of life for the people of Hawai`i; and WHEREAS, it is essential for the County of Hawai`i to support and promote academic endeavors in science, technology,engineering, and mathematics (S.T.E.M.); and WHEREAS, the Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.) degree program is a valuable academic opportunity for students graduating from island high schools and community colleges; and 2 WHEREAS, the B.S.E. degree program provides the means to develop a technological workforce to support existing and growing technology-based industries in Hawai`i; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it hereby urges the University of Hawai`i Board of Regents to approve a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree program at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the following: 1) Members of the University of Hawaii Board of Regents: Chairperson John C.
