Subject: GMO's and Bill 79
Hello members of the council!
My name is Richard Lee, I was born and raised in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii. I live in San
Francisco now working with various groups on anti-GMO campaigns and am working with research
teams for the pros and cons of genetically modified foods. The reports are in and the results are not
good.
GMO's affect entire communities by lowering immune systems causing illnesses such as diabetes,
allergies, stomach ailments, inflammation and cancers.
They also bring with them a pandora's box of issues ranging from health concerns and food safety to
introduction of networks of people who are not as mindful about community as they should
be...Something that our HI homeland has always prided itself on... CHEEE PONO!
My fear is that the wonderful folks of the Big Island won't be aware enough to vote against GMO's and
will be flustered by the carefully worded litigation that so often turns the tide of these proceedings...
PLEASE assist yourselves, the community and all of the thousands and thousands standing behind the
resistance to genetically modified organisms all over the WORLD.
Best of wishes to you all and I hope this Bill 79 does indeed get passed.
