For Your Act Of Courage And Heroism Under Hazardous Conditions In Which You Placed
Yourself In A Life- Threatening Position To Save The Life Of Another Prior To The Arrival Of
Emergency Personnel.
On Sunday, August 18, 2013, Kalapana Resident, Jimmy Ulualoha "Ulu Boy" Napeahi, Member
Of The Puna Surf Team, Was Surfing Near The Pohoiki Boat Ramp In Pahoa When He Had Been
Viciously Attacked By A Shark Resulting In "Multiple Lacerations And Puncture Wounds To His
Lower Extremities. " During The Attack, The Majority Fled The Scene In Fear Of Becoming A
Target Of The Shark
You Saw That Ulu Boy Was In Distress. With Selfless Urgency, You Swam Out To Ulu Boy Despite
The Risks Of Being Attacked By The Shark As Well. You Safely Pulled Him Back To Shore And
Laid Him On The Rocks Where You Tied A Tourniquet, Made Out OfA Surfboard Leash, Around
The Legs Of Ulu Boy To Temporarily Mend His Injuries, While Patiently Accompanying Him
Awaiting The Arrival Of The Emergency Medical Team.
Your Altruistic Actions And Compelling Compassion Is Truly An Inspiration To Our Community.
You Are Highly Commended For Your Heroic Response To Saving The Life Of Another At The Risk
Of Your Own.
