I am writing today in support of the request for rezoning 10 acres from Agriculture to
Commercial for the development of a commercial center that will include much needed
medical and dental services.
Pahoa is the fastest growing area of the Big Island and is lacking in many important
services, however medical and dental needs are potentially life threatening. I urge your
approval of this and any other rezoning requests for the Pahoa area that will increase
medical and dental services in the community.

To Whom It May Concern:
There is a severe physician shortage plaguing East Hawaii, particularly in the Puna District. As a
practicing physician in Hilo, we receive dozens of phone calls on a daily basis seeking our services. Many
of our patients have to drive 20 -30 miles to receive medical services, and the proposed change of zoning
in Pahoa of a parcel of land from agricultural to commercial for the specific purpose of building a
medical clinic would provide a potential solution to this problem. Our island is developing rapidly, and
the community infrastructure must be improved in order to accommodate the growing needs of the
people within.

As a practicing physician in this community, I am reminded on a daily basis of the severe
shortage of physicians and clinics which threatens the health of the people of this island. I
would therefore support a proposed change of zoning in Pahoa of a parcel of land from
agricultural to commercial for the specific purpose of building a medical clinic. Further
development of our medical infrastruction is necessary in order to avert a serious health crisis
on this island.
