We feel that until much more is known about the long-term effects of consuming GMO food products, they should be treated with caution and suspicion. Unfortunately, there is good data showing that GMO crops cross-pollinate with neighboring crops, so it seems the best way to avoid contaminating traditional and organic farming in our state is to remove GMO crops completely. Hawaii Island is a very special place, and we need to be extremely careful what we allow here. We should be joining with the European countries that have been wise and cautious enough to ban GMOs entirely, until much more is known about their effects. For ourselves, we try to support, with our food dollars, organic and sustainable farming whenever possible, and we feel that the presence of GMO crops here only contributes to the contamination and degradation of our land and water. Thank you for considering this Communication, and for giving us the opportunity to state our position. Sincerely, Mr. Don Haynie Ms. Sheryl Samuel 47-4562 Waipio Rd Honoka'a, HI 96727-7100 Comm. •. et • O uf. To: C. Ref. Date P 9/10/2013
