Dear Hawaii County Council Members,
I am in STRONG SUPPORT of Bill 113 to prohibit CMOs on the Big Island.
Genetic modification of plant and animal species with other species is not a natural
process. What are the unintended consequences of releasing GMOs into our environment? It
Is prudent to protect our health and environment by restricting these new organisms. We
should not allow corporations to abuse nature without consideration to the long term
consequences. Genetic modification is manipulating nature for short term financial gain.
:f we continue to allow GMO contamination and excessive use of pesticides on our islands,
we may destroy the delicate balance of nature that is home to us and to many endangered
species. This is not acceptable.
envision Hawaii as the leader in sustainability. More and more people are becoming aware
of the dangers of pesticides and want to avoid GMO food. I hope that Hawaii county will
Lake the step toward an organic, sustainable future. A clean and healthy environment
dedicated to sustainability and organic practices is attractive to a growing number of
people and will ultimately boost tourism in addition to promoting health to our residents .
Please support Bill 113. It is the best thing for the future of Hawaii .
