Mtahalo— Courtney Bruch o c W .71 c) -v ry W tV "R-- ,r N -'O Comm. No 39 3.3 Ref. To: P SM Ref. Date P .4 2013 9/3/2013 Sept. 3, 2013 Bill 113 - Introduced by Margaret Wille Public Safety and Mass Transit" (PSMT) Committee Hearing 9/4/13 I ask you to join me and 1500 GMO Free Maui members in supporting Bill 113. Dear Council Members, This testimony is in support of Bill 113--Please think long term. If not YOU, who? I write this representing myself and as the director of GMO Free Maui with over 1500 members. I submit this testimony as a licensed health care provider, teacher, organic gardener, director of GMO Free Maui, core committee member of Upcountry Sustainability and board member for the Hawaii Organic Farming Association. I strongly oppose GMO foods and I STRONGLY support that GMO cultivation in Hawai'i should be banned. I would like more information regarding this bill regarding EXEMPTIONS.I would like to see a full list of plants and crops currently being cultivated, propagated or developed. I think these exemption may be too lenient and require further investigation.Does this list exist? I agree we should be looking at immediate transition because"co-existence"is a myth. GM organisms cross contaminate non GM plants. This tampering of nature is NOT acceptable and we need to adhere to the precautionary principle as repeatedly voiced by Dr. Lorrin Pang,Maui Health Dpt. This is common sense. 1 am aware that you have received Jack Weber's in depth testimony regarding the adverse effects of the GMO papaya. Please give his testimony deep consideration. I understand that you are in an awkward situation being asked to ban a crop where residents receive their employment but there comes a time when you must make choices for the safety of the whole community and the future generations. Hopefully you have done your homework and you are well aware of the previous infractions these GMO/Chemical companies have consistently engaged in many parts of the world. Please watch `The World According to Monsanto' on youtube. We can not continue to let corporations use Hawaii for their monetary gain at the expense of the health of our people and environment. People on Kaua'i and all over the world are getting very sick from the tons of toxic chemicals used to grow GMO crops. 'The occurrence of many diseases and alle ies have sky rocketed since the introduction of GMO crops into our food supply. This is a slow death. There are well founded reasons why over 30 countries ban and/or label GMOs. Please take a stand and support Bill 109 for your decisions not only protect Hawaii Island but also set a precedent for all counties in Hawaii. The seed crops that are grown in Hawaii State effect the whole world for those seeds obviously aren't growing corn for us to eat right here right now. They are shipped off and grown elsewhere. We need to focus on growing organic, nutrient rich food for self sufficiency not padding Monsanto's corporate pockets while they poison our natural resources. I am so grateful that you have council members that see 'the writing on the wall' and are willing to take such a strong stand to BAN GMOs. We are counting on you all to support Bill 113. I ask you to BAN G&80 CULTIVATION and SUPPORT Bill 113. Please visit this web site GMO Evidence for thorough documentation proving that GMO cultivations and GMO ingestion is hazardous to people, animals and our environment kbo://gruoevideoce.coro/? utm source=redirects&utm medium=gmoevidence.org&utm campaign=301 redirects Mabalo and blessings— Courtney Bzncb GMO Free Maui Maui.
