Sbect : Testimony against Council Bill No. 113. Please kill it !
i have read Bill 113, and am against the ideas put forth in this bill, for the same
reasons listed in the "Open Letter to Margaret Wille from Hawaii Papaya Industry
Association. (Hawaii Tribune-Herald, September 1, 2013) . I am sure you have all read this
communication.
Furthermore, I want you to know that the rumblings from the masses far away from the
papaya fields are getting louder. I hear them in the
countryside: "These damn haoles are trying to take us over! "
is painful to see single-minded cold hearts like Wille and Ford who cannot embrace us
because they refuse see the "big picture. " They also prefer to condone the thoughts
r.hat swirl through the social media rather than verifiable truth .

Lne "haole" issue was concerned. But they have begun to open a chasm reminiscent of the
overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii (1893) , the prohibition of the Hawaiian language in
our public schools (1896) .
Before going on I want to assure you that I am not a racist . Although I'm Hawaiian and
Korean, I'm proud to be a haole too! My grandmother Bertha Bremer was a child of the Busch
and Bremer families who immigrated with other Germans in the late 1800' s to work on the
.alha❑l sugar plantations . She married my Korean grandfather Suk Chun Chang who had
imrr.igrated from An Dong while a teen. Grandma Ella Wentworth was three-quarters Englisn,
:one-quarter Hawaiian and she married my full-blooded Hawaiian grandfather, Obed Kalawe,
Sr.
Okay, now let' s stop and check! If you think what I'm saying is irrelevant, you' re NOT
coal. What I said in the last two paragraphs is akin to the way Hawaiians from ancient
days would introduce
themselves : with their genealogy. It is also akin to the local response to the question,

hargaret Willa, Brenda Ford, and Council members, will you vote as dictators to rule this
alar.d according to the will of your band of supporters? Or, will you perhaps now hustle
lir include more locals and Hawaiians into your mix just so you can win? Do whatever you
want ! But remember, in the end, it is truth that prevails .
