My name is Malia DeVincent and I am a resident of Keaau. I am in support of Bill 129 and ask each
committee member to also support this bill. Fracking has caused many problems on the mainland which
we should learn from. A couple of the problems include pollution of the water supply, and increased
earthquakes. This Bill clearly states the many problems associated with fracking. There are many other
ways to obtain energy that will not be harmful to our people or environment. Why invest in a method
that is known to be harmful.
I know many people living near the geothermal drillings that have health problems because of the gas
escaping. I also have experienced an increase in lung problems since moving to Puna. I ask you to
consider the health of the people instead of the profits of the companies like HELCO that want to
increase the geothermal drilling in Puna. Please support Bill 129 and let's end the destruction of our
Puna Paradise. Thank You.
