Council Members,
We all realize that we live in a very special place. "There are plants and animals the are unique in the
world and therefore need protection. We the people of the aina, those that are native and those who are
not, need protection as well from the corporations that will alter the aina and thereby alter a way of life.
is that morally, ethically or even socially correct? I am expected to give up my life style,my traditional
cultural practices and beliefs for the sake of corporate profit. NO! I firmly reject that idea. If I, the
individual, am responsible to the ai'na, if it's my duty to ma'lama ai'na, shouldn't the so called "corporate
person's" kuleana be same as mine? And in the spirit of kuleana, ma'lama ai'na also means that you
respect the beliefs of our host culture as it pertains to the belief that the land is our temple, our church.
our synagogue our cathedral, our place of worship and each time it is drilled for steam, as nothing else
would he viable, it commits a sacrilegious act with the blessing of a state government mandated to guard
against such egregious acts, such gross acts of defilement!
Imagine how stressful it would be if a corporation came along and took away one of your favorite pass
times be it surfing, diving, hiking. Or if your favorite park was sold to a developer for a resort. If you
farm, imagine because of contaminated seed that are now weeds you are not able to grow your favorite
crop, or your home or place of birth.
By allowing any corporation to frack, you would send a clear and very loud message that it is alright to
deny freedom of choice to many, a very loud and clear message to any company wanting to engage in
fiacking, that it is alright to commit sacrilege against the host culture's religious belief!
