Aloha Councilmembers-
There is a growing awareness locally and around the world of the dangers of'fracking', also known as EGS by
the the geothermal industry which will use it here, given the chance. They may be injecting tracer chemicals
like napthalene sulfonate, a known carcinogen, into the groundwater.
Contamination of groundwater with toxic chemicals and increased seismicity are already well documented facts
surrounding this deleterious process. You need to know that recent findings indicate that large quakes anywhere
in the world cause tremors at reinjection well sites far and near.
Your course is clear. You must stand up for the rights of the citizens of Hawaii Island to maintain the integrity
of a water supply already at risk from decades of of largely unregulated pesticide and herbicide use, and we do
not need anything that will cause any increased seismicity -the one geothermal plant is bad enough.
