Subject: Robbing Farmers of the their Toolbox
Aloha Big Island County Council Members,
The science world is far advancing the knowledge that the general public has about agricultural
practices. We are so detached from knowing what it means to grow our own food when all we have to
do is drive to the store and pick something up. The public has little to no idea of what farmer does let
alone how to grow the food we eat. That is why we cannot listen to the loudest minority of the bunch to
make frivolous laws that block farmers from using the latests tools available to them.
When you propose laws that limit technology, Hawaii gets to be pushed farther away from opportunities
to become research centers for agriculture. We need to attract more people into the science and research
to build a good working knowledge of best practices. If not, how can we know what is good and what
isn't for our islands.
Politicians like Wille and Ford took an oath of office to serve in their best and look out for the best
interests of the public. By creating laws such as Bill 109 and 113 despite all the mountains of evidence
provided is disgraceful and proof of irrationality. Fear and doubt has been instilled in so many people
by the organic industry that leads to people acting irrationally as we are seeing.
Say no to Bills 109 and 113 to show your most valuable constituents what is right.
