To the members of the Hawaii County Council:
Attached is a letter in opposition to the GMO bills. It is irresponsible and premature to
introduce such legislation with so many obvious flaws but such huge unintended consequences!

RE: IN OPPOSITION TO BILLS 109 AND 113
It is extremely troubling that those of us in agriculture are forced to
respond to poorly researched legislation with huge unintended consequences.
The Big Island is the home of leaders of different agricultural commodities.
I am known for my expertise as the international pioneer of True
Indoor Bonsai which is acclaimed as the most successful gift bonsai for anyone,
anywhere who can grow houseplants. We achieved this success by selective
plant breeding and developing professional techniques.
GMO is a very promising tool but the legislation will prevent us from
using that tool to create superior horticulture and floriculture products! Why are
you working against those trying to improve the Big Island's economy?
I oppose the legislation and resent the irresponsible premature
proposing of such legislation as it enflames emotions and forces us away from
doing more productive things with our limited time. Please act more responsibly!
Sincerely,
/s/ David W. Fukumoto
