No. 385. 21g. Ref. To: P/P ,yrC Ref. Date S E p 0 4 Z013 9/3/2013 TESTIMONY County of Hawaii Committee of Public Safety and Mass Transit Wednesday September 4, 2013 1:30pm Bill 109 AGAINST I was born and raised on the Big Island. Though I have lived on Oahu most of my adult years, I consider Hilo home. I am alarmed by this anti science bill. I think we need to utilize all tools to keep crops healthy and growing in Hawaii. I respect those who choose to consume organic, gluten free, fat free, etc. foods. I think though we need to continue to support sound science and support choices as consumers. believe GMO foods to be safe. I welcome the reduced use of pesticides with the use of GMOs. I think if we can increase the nutritional content of crops with GMOs, we should celebrate. Where would we be if we rejected advances in pharmaceutical drugs, robotic surgery tools, cell phones and tablets. Life spans have increased, recovery times from surgery has decreased, accessibility is easier and life is better. Please let us continue to move forward with technology and sound science. Please vote against this bill. Thank you. Iris Iwami 3138 Waialae Ave. #318 Honolulu, HI 96816
