Page 1 of 1 Murashige, Laura COUNTY CLERK,,; y f' 4 At fAll From: Taniguchi, Art [Art.Taniguchi©boh.com] 70!) SEP -3 _ Sent: Tuesday, September 03, 2013 10:05 AM P ' l 2 To: Counciltestimony @co.hawaii.hi.us Subject: Opposition to Bills#109 GMO Ban and #113 GMO Ban w/Restrictions I am writing in opposition to Bills#109 and #113. Some of the reasons are as follows: • Government should not infringe upon the rights of farmers and ranchers as to the use of approved and tested methods. • Regulating labeling will come at a cost to farmers and ranchers that cannot be readily passed on to the consumer. Why not regulate the "NON GMO"farmers to label their products, which would affect a smaller group. • There are a limited amount of farmers and ranchers that need to feed the world population. Back yard farms will not fill the needs of the world population. • This should be a Federal issue, and not County or State. • Numerous experts have testified to the safety of GMO's. Had this bill passed 10 years ago, the papaya industry would have died. The bottom line is, ALLOW THE CONSUMER TO DECIDE which products to purchase.
