Thank you, Adolph Helm Testimony —Adolph Helm Hearing on Hawaii County Bill 109 and Bill 113 Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit VVednegday, September 4, 1:30 p.m Position: Oppose Aloha Chairs, Co- Chairs and Fellow Hawaii County Council Members; My name is Adolph Helm a Native Hawaiian Homesteader Farmer and currently Pr ject Leader for Mycogen Seeds an affiliate of Dow Agro Sciences a seed and trait research and development operations located on the island of Molokai My agriculture experience spans 30 plus years and involves all types of farm practices. Despite what other's may perceive the reality is Molokai have embraced the seed companies 50 years presences and today the seed corn farmers on Molokai plays an integral and important role in driving the island economy including nurturing and sustaining the resources needed to support all forms of agriculture activities. Three successful certified organic farmers, a well known permaculture practitioner, the Maui Community College Agriculture School, and a highly successful conventional sweet potato grower have farmed alongside our biotechnology seed corn operations for many years. We all leverage opportunities to share one another's skills and resources have a great relationship and co-exist extremely well. Bill 109 and 113 drives an agenda that is exclusive and anti co-existence. As a child of this land I grew up understanding the importance of"Aloha and Lau lima" Neither Bill advocate nor support these basic principles therefore I humbly ask you to vote in opposition to Bill 109 and Bill 113 and focus Hawaii County's direction towards "co-existence", It works on Molokai and can work for Hawaii Island as well Maha|V plenty, Adolph Helm �� m ~� '^ Comm.
