We are all learning how dangerous GMO crops are and the horrible pesticide spraying that seems to go right along with it. Nowhere near enough research has been done. I believe we should keep the Big Island pristine and pure-grow organic seeds to send out to the rest of the world. We need to do this for future generations. We should be growing and storing all sorts of seeds and planting materials. I agree with your demand of no GMO crops, however, I think the papaya farmers need some time to look into other strains of papayas that would be resistant to ringspot. They should be encouraged to go organic and they will get higher prices and have wider markets. Perhaps a timeline could be formulated as they work closely with the University extension and other services. That is their livlihood. Once again, I am in support of Bill 109 and I want to commend all of you for taking a giant step out of your comfort zone and putting the Big Island on the map for doing the right thing.
