Terri Cabreros of Keaau and I support Bill 109.
Recently, a GMO proponent criticized GMO opponents for"not understanding the science."
Those who want to deceive you make it sound complicated to hide the evil of GMOs, but the
science isn't out of the reach of an ordinary person receiving ten minutes of clear instruction.
You don't have to be a PhD, or even a rocket scientist to grasp the "science" of genetic
modification as it's applied for profit and to recognize the difference between right and wrong,
good and bad.
Allowing GM crops on our island is to take away our freedom.
I would not be free to grow organic corn in my back yard, if my neighbor has a field of GMO corn
that it will cross-pollinate with and the farmers run the risk of getting sued by Monsanto for
having Monsanto's "patent" in their fields and not paying for it.
GMO alfalfa threatens to strip away people's freedom to raise organic beef and poultry, and the
ability to rotate crops properly.
GMOs threaten to ruin lives and livelihoods; one cannot simply opt out.
GMOs allow others who have a reckless disregard for what is good to make choices about what
we can grow on our lands.
GM and conventional crops with all their pesticides and insecticides cross the line...organics
doesn't and if it did, great!
We cannot wait for our government or the powers that be to change.
We must change, beginning in our homes and in our communities by doing everything we can
to not support this evil technology.
Our lands are being poisoned, our food supply, oceans, air, and us by making the wrong
choices.
We must get back to the basics, the simplicity of the food chain as it was created to be. We
must remove all GMOs, work with our organic farmers and ranchers in cleaning up this island,
for our health and wellbeing.
Mrs. Ford, your proposal for this island to become a heritage seed bank, outstanding!
