Subject: Testimony against Council Bill No. 109. Please kill it!
I have read Bill 109, and am against the ideas put forth in this bill, for many of the
same reasons listed in the "Open Letter to Margaret Wille from Hawaii Papaya Industry
Association. (Hawaii Tribune-Herald, September 1, 2013) . I am sure you have all read this
communication.
I am a citizen of the United States of America, and believe in the democratic process. We
have sensible laws and regulations concerning Genetically Improved crops.
I believe that Bill 109 is based on paranoia by a sector of residents on this island
including Brenda Ford (Bill 109) and Margaret Wille (Bill 113) who have introduced anti
GMO bills here on the island of Hawaii. They have already caused harm to the papaya
farmers due to loss of sales from buyers who have heard about the brouhaha here in Hawaii.
They have caused loss of revenue to farmers who have to leave their farms in order to
testify at Council meetings.
For God' s sake, Brenda Ford believes that honey bees need to be protected from GMO' s
(Section 14- Purpose (3) ! Give me a logical, verifiable explanation that makes sense,
and I' ll apologize.
Kill the bill.
